 Case 4: Cold & Flu 2 (2011)
How is the traditional medical consideration against viruses
Chemical-free vegetables
In my younger days, I caught cold almost all through the year. My two sons in their babyhood, too. We three lay down on the bed with a high fever every each month.
Now we are strong against viruses. We seldom catch cold. Although somebody catches cold occasionally, nobody is infected. Of course, we cure without a medicine.
Chemical-free vegetables made the turning point. Especially, rice and vegetables of the group farm had great effect. This group aimed at self-sufficiency. Then we became tough because of the great power from nature.
Or, is there another reason? As the proverb says; children become strong after measles - group of DNA viruses. My little sons caught measles and got perfect immunity without vaccine. For children, it may be one of great steps forward in their life cycle.
I will write here what I get from my own experience and some borrowed knowledge of books and people.
No medicine efficacious for viruses
Dr. Makoto Yamada, a doctor of Hachiohji Chuoh Shinryojo, said, "There is no medicine for viruses. People cure by their own healing power. You must know it by experiences that you have cured without medicine."
Dr. Yamada said, too, "Although a child has a high fever of 40°C, he can pull through for three days. If a child has red face, it is a simple cold. If a child is pale, hurry to take him to the hospital. Because, it suggests a serious disease such as pneumonia."
So, how many days and nights I did endure watching a child's red face panting with a high fever, keeping eyes on a thermometer, and believing in child's healing power! Fortunately, thanks to their naughtiness, they survive until now.
Antibody
Someone said, "There are hundreds of kinds of viruses of cold and flu. If you get antibodies to all the kinds, you will never be infected any more."
The other said, "When you catch cold, your body mobilizes the entire immune system, a high fever, white corpuscles, lymphocytes, and so on. Thanks to cold, other viruses are wiped out together. So that people who are often infected with cold will be rarely suffered from cancer." I was a little disappointed because I rarely caught cold in those days.
Each antibody has its own life span in human body. The antibody against measles has a long span that the human can keep it all through the life, if they get it naturally without medicine nor vaccine. Natural antibody is very strong.
The antibody against flu which a human gets naturally has 5 years' span. Besides, influenza vaccine is not efficacious unless the forecast just hit the type. It's very difficult to forecast what type will be prevalent the next year. On the other hand, natural antibody is efficacious some against different types.
That convinced me that each of my family caught flu once in five years. We get strong antibodies without missing a chance.
Japanese Folk Remedy
The most efficacious aliment is vegetable soup. As you have it in a large bowl at every meal for a couple of days, you'll forget about a cold that was going to enter your body. Stew a lot of vegetables in season. Season a variety of taste with salt, miso, soy sauce or milk not to be fed up.
My recent popular is an instant negi miso soup. First, you slice a whole stick of negi (Japanese onion like a spring onion). Put them, miso and bonito flakes in the bowl. Pour boiled water. It is easy and you get warm.
Daikon (Japanese radish) juice is efficacious against a cough. Put in the bottle sliced daikon and honey. Wait for the juice to ooze out. Give some spoons to children as often as they want.
Negi eases the respiration. Grill (or use raw) some piece of negi, wrap them in gauze and hang it under the throat.

Dokudami
is efficacious against asthma. It is familiar weed grown everywhere in Japan, and is a crude drug at the same time efficacious against various symptoms. My grandmother has cured asthma by dokudami tea. It was efficacious some for my first son, too. Besides, dokudami is chemical-free completely.
I use Jiryu (dried earthworm) for a high fever and Kuhugedokusan (Chinese herb) for a sore throat and tonsils. For diarrhea I use umeboshi (sunburnt pickled Japanese apricot, ume), umeshu (ume liquor), natto (fermented soybeans) and lactic acid bacilli.
For people who have enough vitality, it is the most useful to take a hot bath, to eat and drink some hot and to go to bed to warm themselves. You'll sweat and drive viruses away by a fever.
Clammy sweat contains poisonous substance of dead viruses. After you have cleaned up the whole body, you'll be refreshed.
Influenza
"Catching COLD" by Pete Davies is very interesting book. His detailed and intelligible description enriches your knowledge about the flu viruses. A lot of scientists make a desperate efforts to exterminate the fatal viruses.
In 1997 in Hong Kong over one and a half million chickens were killed. The experts suspected the animals of acting as hosts to mutant flu viruses.
Pete Davies also wrote about Spanish Cold; in 1918 a mutant variety of the flu viruses killed about forty million people worldwide. It was tragedy. People died instantly one after another. Most victims were healthy young people.
The experts forecast that the flu should be the most terrifying plague. Airborne disease is actually unstoppable. It is probably impossible to shut absolutely the route of infection. To shut the route is to shut the society. The flu viruses - group of RNA viruses - swap genetic materials each other, the same as the corona viruses of the cold. They can exchange genetic information also between human, birds and pigs. There exists a new strain every moment. The type of flu viruses changes too quickly to make a vaccine.
After all, I came to the conclusion that the most reasonable choice is to get the power of spontaneous cure. Trying every possible method, I leave fate to heavens as for the rest. It is my usual policy. There exists always some survivors against the mortal disease.
Chronic "catching cold"
I know some clients who catch cold repeatedly as if they are catching cold all through the year. So was I in my younger days.
Some experts say it is caused by slow virus infection. The most famous example is the chicken pox (varicella). After chicken pox healed up, the surviving viruses settle in nerve fiber. When physical strength falls, it causes such as intercostal neuralgia or trigeminal neuralgia.
There is also an opinion the chronic "catching cold" is a kind of the chronic fatigue syndrome.
Anyway, some viruses, which settle somewhere in the living body, burst out when a host's condition becomes bad.
Acupuncture and Moxibustion help human to keep a good condition.
Evil wind makes "catching cold"
According to Chinese Medicine, catching "cold" is named "evil wind". Evil wind enters the body, and you catch cold. Spanish expression "resfriado" means "become cold". It's similar to English. So eastern understanding of disease is different from the West.
By the way, traditional Chinese Medicine says, too, that the evil wind enter from the acupoint, Daitsui (DV 14) on the Meridian Route as overnor Vessel, which exists in the back of neck .
If your neck is stiffed, the cold is easy to catch you. The treatment for stiff neck is very useful against cold.
Eastern Medicine is clinical medicine which attaches importance to experience. Though you cannot understand it well, it helps you to cure the sickness.
Qi is divided into four categories
Organic vegetables make a strong body. Why?
According to Chinese Medicine, Qi is vital energy which categorized into inborn and acquired.
Inborn Qi, which is inherited from the parents and settles in kidney, determines human life span. Acquired Qi, which is taken by nature, is power to live.
Acquired Qi is categorized into heavenly and earthly.
Heavenly Qi is taken by respiration. Earthly Qi is taken by eating vegetables that taken earth energy.
Indeed, I have experienced Organic plants power. Natural farm has a great power. Birds, animals, insects, worms, and human, all the lives live together. To live is to eat lives. Strong immune system is based on the great Qi energy.
Theory of Qi energy is old order, but it is accumulated by enormous experiences over forty million years. I'm sure you'll be incredibly energetic by the power of Nature.
Cold enters through the "cold point"
I think from my experience that stiff muscles seem to be comfortable home for viruses because of stagnant blood.
Stiff muscles are cold. So you will be easy to catch cold. Calling fresh blood, your muscles become soft and warm. It's a very uncomfortable circumstance for viruses.
Anyway, "feeling cold" is a sign. Some catch cold from the neck, and others from the head, back, leg or arm. There is a variety of gates. Each person has his own gate. If you know your susceptible point, you can cope immediately. You will be rescued from being serious.
Phlebotomy from acupoint as a well
In case of cold and flu, main troubled Route is Lung Meridian (LU) belongs to yin. Disease enters from yang and stays at yin. Cold enters from Large Intestine Meridian (LI) belongs to yang. And it stays in LU. Both are a pair.
If you bleed a little blood off from Shoyo (LI1) at the beginning of cold, you may cure immediately. Shoyo belongs to an acupoint group as a well where the flow of Qi starts or ends.
Phlebotomy is efficacious greatly in primary stage of illness.
Various treatments for symptoms of cold
Moxibustion can warm partly, besides moxa smoke make good effect for your respiratory organs.
As mentioned in previous, cold and flu enter from Daitsi (DV 14) in the back of neck. To shut the door against viruses, multi-piling mox or indirect mox on Daitsui is effective. If you apply golden grains around Daitsui, the effect continues for some days.
Stick silver grain at Hiyo (BL58) for nasal congestion. For dry cough use a pair; silver grain at Gekimon (PC4) and golden grain at Tentotsu (CV22), which prompts to excrete sputum.

Scenario of battle against cold and flu
Stage 1 Not yet cold
Feeling cold somewhere, you get warm there by clothes or scarf.
Vegetable soup is effective through the stages. Japanese fork remedy helps you to cure.
Stage 2 Primary care
Feeling somehow out of tune deep in the throat or nose, you burn moxa on cold points.
Moxibustion and golden grains around Daitsui are effective. Phlebotomy from Shoyo has an immediate effect on this stage.
Stage 3 Still even
A chill is a sign of fever. Hypothalamus starts to rise your temperature to attack against viruses.
By a hot bus, hot food and drinks, beddings and quilts, warm yourself inside out. Wear a dry towel at the back under shirts to absorb the sweat.
You get well by discharging sticky sweat which contains poisonous factor of dead viruses, bacteria, leukocyte and so on.
Stage 4 Battle in the depth
As the force of viruses increases, your temperature won't drop. You must have aches and pains in your head, throat, joints and muscles. Symptoms become harder and harder.
Now, make up your mind to fight against viruses with all your power. It's better you lie thoroughly for some days. Although you cannot take a rest, you would lie down after the work.
Stage 5 Turning point to win
Observe yourself carefully, and you can sense yourself rise from the depth. The moment is a turning point that your immune system starts to win against viruses.
Then you will cure rapidly. Be careful not to have a relapse because of the strain until the poison is driven away completely.
Finally, you can get antibody against the viruses. Besides, you have a chance to clean up the whole body.
